As many of you may already know, one of the hurdles of adopting internationally is that it’s expensive. Between what the adoption agency charges, the charges by the foreign government you’re adopting from, travel expenses, etc…. it turns out to be a good chunk of change. Change that we admittedly don’t have in our pockets or couch cushions. So what now? Should I worry? If I start to do that — someone slap me! Why? Because God’s got this!
How many (worthless) things in this life do we spend our money on (or rather take out debt on) that we don’t blink an eye at? Houses, cars, clothes, eating out, tv/internet packages, phones, computers, various techno gadgets, etc. Do you think that God cares if we have any of these luxuries? Yet we spend our hard earned money so we can possess many, if not all of these things and often times call them blessings. Last time I read Matthew 5:1-12 Jesus didn’t say blessed are the rich, blessed are those with big houses and fancy cars, blessed are those that take extravagant vacations. And don’t get it twisted I’m not excluding myself from any of this. But for me to worry that God won’t provide when we are truly doing His work… Well, all I can think of is Matthew 6:30 “…O, ye of little faith”.
This is where I believe the Holy Spirit rolls up His sleeves and says: “Let’s get to work!”. Well let’s face it, the Spirit’s sleeves are always rolled up, He’s often just waiting on us to get our lazy behinds moving! He works within us, through our hearts… it’s His specialty. Even though we haven’t raised a dime yet (well, technically I think my daughter has already raised a few bucks!) We have already seen the Holy Spirit at work within our friends and family and how wonderful it is to witness that!
The first fundraiser we are doing might be the coolest fundraising idea I have ever heard of. It’s called the Apparent Project. I encourage you to watch this video right now.

It’s so cool because the money raised is split, half of it goes to funding our adoption and the other half goes back to mothers and fathers in Haiti who are trying desperately to provide for their families so they aren’t put in the position of having to place their own children in crèches (orphanages).
We just received our first box of bracelets and are selling them for $8 each. Please message me and let me know how many you want and I’ll either bring them to you or mail them out.
Other upcoming fundraisers to look for:
- T-Shirt: The t-shirt design is done and we are currently in our two-week presale! These are high quality shirts with lots of different colors and sizes for toddlers, youth, women and unisex. Click here to purchase.
- Garage Sale: We have already started gathering items for a fundraising garage sale that the church is hosting. It will be held on Aug 1-2 at the church building. Items can be dropped off at the church or at our home. We can also arrange to pick things up. If you are having or have already had a garage sale, we can take unsold items off your hands. The church can provide receipts for donations too. Here’s a link to our website where you can find the address.
